README

This is the README file for the tiny distribution of an XSLT
stylesheet called mbooks.xsl.

Mbooks is the name of a set of bare-bonse, OAI-harvestable MARC
records from the University of Michigan. Using another program I
wrote called get-mbooks.pl you can download these records to your
local disk. [1]

Most librarians will want to index these MARC records. I did so
using an application called Zebra. This indexer/search engine
comes with an SRU front-end. Consequently searches against the
index are returned as XML streams. While the input for the index
was "raw" MARC, the output of the index is MARCXML. The enclosed
stylesheet is a pretty good one for displaying these results and
allowing the librarian to view the full MARC record. At the very
least, this stylesheet can be used to teach the basics of XSLT.

The stylesheet is distributed under the GNU Public License.

Enjoy.
